How About You
2013
acrylic / found record album cover
The paintings are created by applying a uniform layer of acrylic onto a found image, usually a 12" album cover. The complex and improvised patchwork of lines, curvature and ornamentation are created by scoring and grooving out the paint surface with an
X-Aacto knife. Graphic details and color appear as a "surprise". The process can be attributed to a sort of metaphor for excavating.
In some instances, multiple colored layers are added and and grooves filled in.
